The Bundey substation is integral to South Australia’s ‘Project Energy Connect’, the largest transmission endeavour to date. The initiative involves a new 206-kilometer high-voltage transmission line from Robertstown to the SA/NSW border.

Overview
Serving as South Australia’s first 330kV substation, Bundey facilitates power exchange between SA and NSW, and serves as a hub for future renewable energy integration, crucial for maximizing the projects benefits. It houses the state’s largest electricity transformers, essential for managing power flow across this new interstate energy corridor.
CPP Scope of works
The project scope went well beyond the headline items, including substantial design and construction upgrades to existing substations, transmission line cut-ins, and numerous enhancements at remote locations throughout the state. Specifically:
- Bulk Earthworks & Drainage within a 500M x 200M Substation footprint
- Installation and Commissioning of 3 x 400MVA Transformers, 3 x 60MVar Shunt Reactors and 100MVAr Capacitor Bank
- Installation and Commissioning of 3 x 330kV & 3 x 275kV Breaker and a half configuration Substation Bays
- Supply, Assembly, Installation and Commissioning of 60 x Protection Panels into 6 x Control Buildings
- Supply, Installation and Commissioning 1 x Amenities Building and AC Supply Configuration
- Supply, Installation and Commissioning of new Telecommunications Connections into ElectraNet Network
- Integration of new Special Protection Signalling Scheme into ElectraNet Transmission Network
